Weekly Progress and homework update
At the start of Year Eleven, all pupils will begin the preparation tasks for the Practical Controlled Assessment. Pupils will plan, film, edit and evaluate an opening sequence from the Thriller genre.
Pupils will learn about the conventions of the Thriller genre and be shown a variety of different examples. Some of the typical conventions can be found by accessing the link below:

One of the sequence that pupils will analyse in class is from Scream - this can accessed below:

Another example of an opening sequence that you may wish to access and will no doubt find useful is that of Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg in 1975. This can be accessed by clicking on the link below:

The Production Log
All pupils are required to complete a production log which is worth 30% of their overall mark. This will contain planning and research elements such as the storyboard, treatment, shot list, analysis of key sequences and scene breakdowns.
Some images of the work that has been completed during the planning stages can be seen below. This shows the planning for the treatment and the analysis of the opening from 'Speed'.

Below are some images showing how pupils have attempted the story-boarding process in preparation for the filming of their opening sequence:

The images below show some pupils participating in the editing process. The opening sequence needs to be filmed and edited on the school premises and pupils will be given four double lessons to complete the filming process.

The editing and evaluation activities will take around 8 lessons - all pupils will use stat-of-the-art IMAC computers and will use IMovie HD to edit their production. These computers and software can be seen below:

You can access one of the completed pupil opening sequences below. Do you think it is recognisable an opening sequence? If so, why do you think this is?
